Blowing up his wife's head: man suspected of murder

A man in Thailand is suspected of killing his wife with a small homemade bomb placed in the woman’s mouth.

In the northern Thai province of Mae Hong Son, a 54-year-old man named Yon is accused of killing his 53-year-old wife Luen with a small homemade bomb placed in the woman’s mouth. This was reported by Thai television channel Channel 7.

Yon reported his wife’s death to the local chief in the middle of the night, claiming he woke up to find her dead. However, the chief did not immediately report the matter to the police, believing it was impossible to investigate due to darkness effectively.

Police officers who arrived in the morning to investigate the woman’s death, which occurred the night before, discovered a gruesome scene: the head of Luan was covered with blood, while her mouth and face were severely injured.

On the bedroom floor were several broken teeth and fragments of an improvised explosive device known as a ‘ping pong bomb’ because of its similarity in size to a table tennis ball. Other unused bombs of this type were also found at the scene.

According to the TV station, Yon appeared unconcerned and indifferent during the investigation, sitting away from the scene. The couple’s daughter, a 24-year-old girl, arrived at the scene in tears and accused her father of murder.

Yon claims he slept in the same room as Luen but did not hear any explosion. Locals said that Yon was often jealous and quarrelled with his wife after drinking alcohol.

It was also noted that the man would not allow his wife to leave the house, although she liked to visit temples and sometimes stayed overnight at Buddhist retreats. Luen had allegedly just returned from one such retreat before her death.

Luen was known in the community as a kind woman, and locals expressed bewilderment that someone could have harmed her intentionally. Luen’s body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy. Police continue to question Yon and search for additional evidence at the scene.
