The body of a young Russian man with signs of violent death was found in a ditch near Karon Beach; Phuket police are investigating the case.

There was a tragic accident at Phuket’s popular Thai resort. On Tuesday, the body of a young man, a Russian citizen, was found in a ditch near Karon Beach, the Bangkok Post reported.

According to information provided by police, the body was discovered at around 1 pm local time. The deceased was lying on his back in a ditch near the Naga statue along the road leading to Karon Beach. He was wearing only shorts.

The man’s body had multiple injuries, including wounds near his eyes, severe bruising around his left ear and deep cuts on both hands. According to preliminary reports, the deceased had been beaten with a heavy object. Medics estimated that death occurred at least 8 hours before the body was found.

A travelling bag containing a passport, other documents and a MacBook laptop was found near the body. Police identified the deceased only by the name Ilya without revealing full details. According to the records, the man arrived in Phuket on 24 January this year with his wife, taking advantage of the 90-day visa-free regime. His visa expired on 22 July, after which he extended his stay by travelling to Malaysia via Satun province.

Investigators speculate that the murder took place elsewhere, and the body was later moved to a ditch. Police are currently examining CCTV footage in the area for clues. The body has been sent for forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death.

According to media reports, the deceased was 27 years old. Forensic investigators continued examining the scene on Wednesday for additional clues. The Russian consulate in Phuket has been informed of the incident.

This tragic event raises severe concerns about tourists’ safety in Phuket, one of Thailand’s most popular holiday destinations. Millions of tourists from all over the world, including many Russians, visit the island every year.

Thai authorities pay great attention to tourists’ safety, but unfortunately, crimes against foreigners still occur. Tourists are advised to take precautions, especially at night, and avoid crowded areas.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, and Phuket Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact law enforcement.
