Suspects on a motorcycle planted steel pipe bombs near a market and hotels.
Thai authorities are actively searching for two suspects involved in two explosions that rocked the city of Pattani on the evening of Sunday, 9 June 2025. Police and special services are coordinating their actions to quickly apprehend the criminals who pose a threat to public safety.
The first explosion occurred at around 8:05 p.m. local time in front of a night market, a busy area. The second explosion followed just five minutes later in a nearby alley between the Santisook and Palace hotels, causing panic among locals and tourists.
According to Pattani Police Chief Major General Santas Chueaputtarn, after carefully reviewing CCTV footage from the area, a search was launched for two men who were seen at the explosion sites at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
According to preliminary data, the suspects arrived on a motorcycle and planted explosive devices in roadside rubbish bins. The motorcycle driver was wearing a football shirt and helmet, and the passenger was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, making it difficult to identify them.
The homemade explosive devices consisted of steel pipes filled with approximately three kilograms of explosives. The design was developed in such a way that the explosions occurred with a minimum time interval, creating the maximum destructive effect.
Immediately after the explosions, the surrounding area was cordoned off. Explosives experts who arrived at the scene conducted a thorough search of the area for other possible explosive devices, ensuring the safety of citizens and minimizing potential risks.
The explosions damaged market stalls and motorcycles parked nearby. One person reported temporary hearing loss. The victim was given the necessary medical assistance.
Security forces are currently analyzing additional CCTV footage to track the suspects’ movements and establish their identities. According to preliminary data, these same people may have been involved in planting another bomb, which was discovered on Monday morning at an intersection on the other side of the city.
This bomb, which was set to explode at 8 p.m., was successfully defused by specialists more than an hour later. Thanks to their quick actions, another potential terrorist attack was prevented.
The provincial administration has appealed to the residents of Pattani, as well as the neighboring provinces of Yala and Narathiwat, to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious objects or individuals to law enforcement authorities.
