In Thailand, a survey has revealed that over 60% of young people believe vaping is effective in helping them quit smoking, and more than half believe that nicotine is beneficial.
From May 1 to 27, a survey was conducted by the Department of Health Service Support (DHSS) in collaboration with the Thailand Youth Institute and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, which polled 40,164 individuals aged 6 to 30.
According to the survey, 18% of individuals use e-cigarettes, and many have incorrect beliefs about vaping. 61% believe that it can assist in quitting traditional cigarettes, 51% consider nicotine to be beneficial, and 50% believe e-cigarettes are safer than conventional smoking.
In addition, 26% believe e-cigarettes are nicotine-less, 13% believe they are legal to use, and 12% believe vaping is safe.
These findings have prompted the National Health Agency (NHHA) to launch campaigns. Many individuals are aware of potential risks and use the GEN-H Health Hero network to raise awareness.
Surat Thani province has implemented a significant crackdown on illegal vaping, leading to the confiscation of 8 million baht. Almost one million contraband cigarettes and over 3,800 electronic cigarettes and liquids were being transported from Hat Yai to Bangkok. Still, after receiving information, customs officials intercepted the shipment on Highway 41 in Tha Chang district.
