A ranger, returning from patrolling, drank and wounded three colleagues while trying to enter the park.

In the Chiang Dao National Park (Chiang Mai Province), an incident occurred that injured three forest guards. A drunken Ranger, returning from patrolling, opened fire on his colleagues trying to enter the territory of the reserve.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the phatanz checkpoint of forestry. Police immediately arrived at the scene after receiving a report of the shooting.

According to police, the instigator was 36-year-old Sathahhorn Kongumang, a forest guard. Returning from a two-day patrol at Doi Luang Chiang Dao, he abused alcohol and tried to pass through a checkpoint with weapons in an inadequate condition.

His colleagues, seeing the state of Sathaphorn, tried to stop him. However, he ignored them and opened fire, injuring two people: 39-year-old Pichet Ruenmun, the head of the detachment wounded in the left leg, and 40-year-old Chavalit Nokham, a Ranger injured in the left foot.

In response, other forest guards opened fire, wounding Sathaphorn on the left side. The bullet went on in. All three victims were taken to Chiang Dao Hospital to provide medical care.

Sathaphorn Kong-Mung is currently detained by police for further investigation and prosecution. The incident has raised serious concerns in the management of the national park and among forest guards.

The circumstances of the incident point to the need to strengthen monitoring of compliance with safety rules and work, especially about the use of alcohol by employees working with weapons in the territory of reserves.

This incident has become the subject of active discussion in Thai society and the media, emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline and professionalism among environmental agency employees. In particular, the need for regular personnel psychological and medical examinations is raised.
