An improperly delivered $123 crab order sparked a fury, with neighbors lashing out and stabbing each other.

In Pattaya, Thailand, a routine food delivery error resulted in a violent conflict between Chinese neighbors, resulting in two people being injured. The incident was caused by an order for a steamed crab worth 4,000 Thai baht (about US$123.5), which was delivered to the wrong address and eaten before the rightful owner could receive it.

The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras in a luxury home in Soi Khao Talo District, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, at approximately 7:30 pm on 22 August. The footage shows about ten people breaking into the house and attacking its residents. The victims were identified as a 34-year-old landlord of Chinese-Cambodian descent and a gardener of unknown ethnicity. Both are currently in the hospital.
The family of the victims reported the incident to the Nong Pru police station. In connection with this case, reference is made to Seththa Thavisin’s recent announcement of plans to attract more tourists, including from Russia.

At 7 pm on 24 August, Wanchai, a 45-year-old Thai gardener working in the home of the alleged perpetrators, surrendered to police and provided details of what had happened. According to Wanchai’s testimony, the landlord’s mother ordered 4,000 Thai baht worth of steamed crab through a Chinese restaurant app. When the food was not delivered within the expected timeframe, she contacted the restaurant.

The restaurant confirmed that the courier had already sent the order, but had the wrong address. An elderly woman went to a nearby house to inquire about the order, but the landlord replied dismissively: “We have already eaten everything. What is the problem?”. This prompted the woman to call her son.

The son brought a group of people to demand an explanation from a neighbor about the food he had eaten, but the landlord reportedly continued to be unfriendly and rude. Wanchai acknowledged that his anger prompted him to take part in the attack on both neighbors and expressed regret for his actions.
The deputy chief of the investigation department of the Nong Pru Police Department, Police Lieutenant Colonel Thana Wisetchai, confirmed that Wanchai had surrendered, but CCTV footage recorded several perpetrators. Police are coordinating with Wanchai to contact the landlord and urge other suspects to turn themselves in for proper legal proceedings.

The case highlights tensions in Pattaya’s expatriate community, where a simple delivery error escalated into serious criminal charges due to high-value seafood. Competition for resources and differences in cultural norms can lead to such conflicts.
