
In Thailand, a gang of thieves of telecommunications equipment True Troye detainees, including two citizens of Laos, stole equipment for 20 million baht.
In the provinces of Phitsanulok and neighboring regions of Thailand, police detained a group of persons suspected of stealing and dismantling the telecommunications equipment company True Corporation. Their criminal actions caused network interruptions and damage in the amount of about 20 million Thai baht.
The detainees are two Laotian citizens, Wun Baithawong, 26, and Sonchai Sengmala, 25, as well as a Thai citizen, Tanapong Pimthhuad, 32. According to police, the suspects worked as subcontractors of True Corporation.
The arrest was made in a house in the Lam Luk Ka district of Pathumtkha province. The police followed the attackers, tracking the pickup recorded by surveillance cameras in Phitsanulok. During the search, 36 base stations and 100 kilograms of copper cable were seized.
The investigation found that the citizens of Laos confessed to the theft of equipment installed by True Corporation in the Pkhrom district of Phiram province of Phiram province and the neighboring province of Sukhothai. The stolen equipment was transferred to Tanapong, who was engaged in his disassembly.
Tanapong extracted gold from the equipment, melted it, and sold it. Intermediaries, including those abroad, also implemented other details. This criminal scheme has caused severe disruptions in the work of telecommunications networks in several provinces.
A police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Kitisak Duronggvibun, said the damage from the attackers’ actions is estimated at about 20 million Thai baht. An investigation is underway to identify other persons possibly involved in this criminal activity. The authorities intend to stop such incidents that threaten the stability of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
