Six Chinese nationals and a Thai guide were detained by the navy in Chanthaburi while crossing the border from Cambodia on Friday evening.

In Chanthaburi Province, located in eastern Thailand, law enforcement agencies arrested a group of six Chinese citizens who illegally entered the country from Cambodia. The operation was carried out in the Pong Nam Ron area near the Thai-Cambodian border.

The detainees are suspected of involvement in fraudulent schemes. The Royal Thai Navy said those detained included five men and one woman, aged between 19 and 40. The illegal immigrants have been identified as Han Bin, 33, Li Huang, 40, He Chun Ling, 33, Li Zhidong, 19, Ji Jian Guan, 20, and Chao Wen Shen, 33. Along with the Chinese citizens, a Thai citizen, 37-year-old Thirasak Kaosri, a native of Chanthaburi Province, was detained.

He is suspected of organizing the illegal transportation of foreigners across the border and acting as a guide.

The arrest took place on Friday at 10:00 pm near the Ban Pakkad border crossing. Authorities said that the detained Chinese citizens were suspected of being involved in fraudulent activities.

An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the case and identify possible links between the detainees and other individuals or criminal groups. Chanthaburi province, known for its fruit orchards and proximity to the Gulf of Thailand, is a frequent transit point for illegal migration.

Tighter controls at key border crossings are forcing smugglers to seek alternative routes, increasing the risk of violations at less-guarded border areas. Illegal migration, especially when linked to possible criminal activity, is a serious problem for Thailand.

The Kingdom actively cooperates with neighboring countries to combat cross-border crime, exchanging information and conducting joint operations to prevent the illegal movement of people and goods. Efforts are aimed not only at curbing current violations but also at identifying and eliminating channels that facilitate illegal migration.
