A Toyota Yaris bomb exploded at a checkpoint, injuring a defence force member and causing temporary hearing loss.

A terrorist attack has occurred in Narathiwat Province, located on Thailand’s southern border. A car bomb was detonated near a checkpoint in Tak Bai district on Wednesday evening. One of the defence volunteers was injured in the incident.

According to preliminary information, a car packed with explosives rammed into sandbag fortifications installed at a checkpoint in Ban Khok Ma Phuang village, Sala Mai district. The powerful blast caused a concussion and temporary hearing loss to one of the volunteers manning the checkpoint.

The car used in the attack has been identified as a black Toyota Yaris. It is believed that the car had fake number plates, making it challenging to identify and track. After the explosion, two suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The checkpoint guards attempted to detain the perpetrators by opening fire on them. During the brief shootout, the suspects were not detained; they fled in an unknown direction. The criminals are currently being sought.

Thai authorities have stepped up security in the country’s southern provinces following the incident. Operational search measures are underway to identify those involved in the attack and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Narathiwat region, like other southern provinces of Thailand such as Yala and Pattani, has been an area of instability for many years due to the activities of separatist groups. Thai authorities condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victim and his family.

Government officials expressed their determination to continue the fight against terrorism and extremism in the region to ensure the safety of citizens and stability in the country. In connection with the terrorist attack that occurred, Russian tourists planning to visit the southern provinces of Thailand are advised to exercise increased vigilance and follow the recommendations of local authorities.

The Russian Embassy in Thailand provides the necessary consular support to Russian citizens in the region. It is important to note that tourist areas are usually under increased security, but one should avoid visiting places where there is an increased risk of terrorist activity.
