A Russian tourist has died tragically in Phuket, Thailand.

Denis Konenkov, a 35-year-old Russian citizen, went missing early on August 21 while swimming with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Kamila Sharipova, on a secluded beach in the northern part of the island.

A powerful wave swept him out to sea, and an immediate search was initially unsuccessful. The incident occurred at around 0:30 in front of one of the resorts located between Banana and Nai Thon beaches. Kamila Sharipova told police that while she was swimming, a large wave suddenly arose and carried her companion out to sea.

Police Lieutenant Suphon Muangkhai, deputy investigator of Sahu Police Station, received a report of the incident at 1:10 a.m. and immediately informed Colonel Salan Santisasanakul, the station chief. Rescue teams from Tambon Sahu Administrative Organization (OrBorTor) were dispatched to the scene.

However, darkness and strong waves prevented an immediate search. The coordinated search operation resumed at first light. Divers and rescue teams from Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation used rubber boats and worked with local officials to comb the coastal waters for the missing tourist.

Unfortunately, the hope of saving Denis Konenkov was not justified. The tourist’s body was found the same day, around 3:00 p.m., at the northern end of Nai Thon Beach.

The body washed up on the shore. This tragic incident highlights the importance of taking precautions when swimming in the sea, especially in adverse weather conditions and strong waves. The Russian Embassy in Thailand expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased and is providing the necessary consular assistance.

Phuket authorities warn tourists to be vigilant and consider weather conditions before entering the water, especially on unequipped and secluded beaches. The rainy season in Phuket, characterized by strong winds and waves, requires increased caution from vacationers.
