In Pattaya, Thai police have successfully reunited an elderly Chinese tourist with her family after she became lost in South Pattaya.

The separation occurred on Friday, and a bracelet the woman was wearing played a key role in quickly resolving the situation. Ms Zhang, 80, was found standing alone on a traffic island on Sukhumvit Road opposite Tesco Lotus at around 11 am on August 22.

She spoke only Chinese, causing significant communication difficulties for Pattaya police officers who arrived at the scene. Despite assistance from Chinese-speaking tourist police, the police initially had trouble obtaining information that would help them locate her family members.

Ms. Zhang spoke incoherently, showed signs of anxiety and distress, and had no identification documents. The breakthrough came when police noticed an identification bracelet on Ms Zhang’s wrist with contact numbers engraved on it. The police made an international call using this information and successfully contacted the woman’s relatives in China.

During the conversation, it became clear that the older woman had arrived in Pattaya only two days ago and had probably gotten lost, separated from her family members.

The search was complicated by the woman’s lack of documents, as well as the language barrier. Three hours later, Ms. Zhang’s family, who were also on holiday in Pattaya, were found. Relatives rushed to the meeting place, where an emotional reunion took place.

Both the elderly tourist and her family expressed their sincere gratitude to the police for their assistance. This case highlights the importance of older people, especially those travelling abroad, having identification that includes contact information for loved ones. The incident also demonstrates the effectiveness of cooperation between various units of the Thai police, including the tourist police, in helping foreign nationals who find themselves in a difficult situation.

Such cases occur regularly, and the Thai police often help tourists from different countries, including Russians, in situations involving lost documents, orientation in the city, and other problems.
